Upon arrival, guests are assisted with their luggage and check-in at the hotel, marking the beginning of a peaceful stay in one of Argentina’s most charming alpine towns.

Day 10 | San Carlos de Bariloche - Isla Experience Gourmet

Isla Experience Gourmet

One of our guides will pick you up at the hotel’s lobby at the scheduled time for your private transfer to the pier in Las Balsas.

We will board a private boat to sail Nahuel Huapi’s crystal clear waters for 45 minutes up to this millenary island, while overseeing Cerro López and Cerro Capilla in the surroundings of Tristeza and Blest arms and tasting our cultural Mate along the way.

The tour of the Island is lived as a journey through time where we will hike the woodlands through 5,5 to 8 kilometers of inner trails with an altitude gain of 110 meters (360 feet) up to 900 meters (2995 feet) above sea level. With a size similar to Manhattan Island, Isla Victoria is only inhabited by park rangers and people from the lodge, compared to the 1,6 million people in the US Island.

We disembark at Playa del Toro pier where the trekking starts, leading to a first mandatory stop at the cave paintings where we begin to connect with the place from another cultural point, understanding the Island as a unit beyond the white man.

Then we head up to a viewpoint, from where we observe Cerro Millaqueo, Isla de los Gansos and the Andes mountain range that surrounds us. While analyzing and observing the environment, differentiating native from exotic trees, and the importance they hold for local species, we’ll begin to perceive the Island from its different smells and textures beyond its foliage.

The journey continues to La Escuelita, the local school, a central place of attachment to local people, where we come into contact with their community and understand the importance of the different paradigms of education and contact with different world travel cultures.

From there we go down to Totoras, where we reach the other side of the island, outside the traditional circuit, arriving at the beach protected by pataguas, myrtle trees, monkey puzzle trees (male and female) and larch trees. Returning through the Swiss Vallecito up to the Central Zone, go up to the Nursery Garden connecting with the whole process of restoration of native species. The next stop steers directly to the history of the white man in the Island, with the house of Anchorena, the Park-Rangers School, and the soon-to-be restored museum where we have the possibility of attending a bathroom, talk about the native people that used to live here and their cave paintings and canoes. If the possibility arises, we will talk about the colony that started with the manufacture of boats and the exploitation of lumber.

Then we head north along the coastal path to Aserradero Viejo, where we’ll play to interpret and compare the original forest with the exotic one and we may listen to different bird species and discover insects. Throughout the hike we can find natural chilcos and if we are silent enough, we can even see deers or pheasants. Towards the end, we will observe the change of vegetation: from Coihues to Ñires and Cipreses until the great descent that ends at the bay of Antepuerto where a private chef is waiting for us.

Our aim is to bring back to life the ancient customs and share these flavors with cultural and emotional roots. Therefore, we welcome our guests with a refreshing drink to recharge and energize their souls.

The first step is a soup that can be either squash or tomato, depending on the weather.

When it is possible to harvest, we include the seed of a prehistoric tree that still populates the region: the Monkey Puzzle Tree.

From the Mapuche gastronomy we include “merken”: condiment of spicy smoked red chili, salt and coriander seeds, toasted and crushed in a stone mortar. We offer trout to symbolize a “lake product”, a fish that was introduced by mankind in the last century and brings its presence and taste to enhance our plates accompanied by a red quinoa risotto with chopped squash, eggplant and from the garden or local producers that complete this colorful dish.

For dessert, we like to share those flavors that have been relevant for us since our childhood and still are a treat in everyone’s home. They belong to our culture, engraved in our memories: “vigilant dessert”, flavored fusion of sweet potato jam and cheese and the inevitable presence of “dulce de leche” (milk jam or caramel) in a traditional pancake.

Topping it all, a delicious blend of Patagonian dehydrated fruits: apples, hibiscus, rose hip and oranges with a bit of honey, a very special Pachimama’s blend.

While resting and connecting with the peaceful atmosphere in this corner of the Island, you can enjoy the moment of art we offer, providing a cultural after lunch experience immersed in nature.

After lunch, we’ll return to the boat with the possibility of navigating to the bay of the sunken ship to keep track of where we were previously. Finally, we start the return to the port on a navigation of relaxation and contemplation while offering drinks, blankets and sunscreen. If weather permits, we may jump off rocks and swim in the Lake!

Day 11 | San Carlos de Bariloche - Andes Trail

Andes Trail with Kayak or Bike

The power of this product resides in the fact that it shows the spirit of our destiny in all its surfaces, views and elements. Serving as a starting point for the rest of the products, since whenever a new product is developed, the experience of the Andes Trail is taken as a parameter: the concept of going to a place in nature that is close, easily accessible, but that it still continues to be an adventure to connect with the spirit of the mountain and rappelling. A gastronomic situation in an unique and special location and the possibility of combining it with a kayak paddling.

Your guide will pick you up with a private transportation at the lobby of your hotel at 10:30 AM to take you to this day’s program. The adventure begins by walking the oldest trekking path in Patagonia, the one that the Palotinos priests pilgrimaged to get to the long-standing refuge of Cerro López. This historic path was once dreamed of as a crossroads to Chile and nowadays it’s a place of adventure among mountains. Little by little while wandering through ancient coihue forests that rise parallel to the rocks carved by glaciers, we see opening windows through their branches and each one of them gives us a new view and a new discovery.

This is just a warm up before reaching the viewpoint of Brazo Tristeza, from where if we remain silent, we can hear the waterfall that descends from Cerro Capilla.

This is the part of the adventure where we turn into climbers: scrambling step by step between boulders, helping and accompanying each other, every time we turn back a new angle of the landscape is presented to us.

Arriving at our first summit, we participate in a small ritual bringing a rock to the stone pyramid sitting a-top. From there a small trek leads to the stone of the Lion King, a natural balcony over Brazo Tristeza where the background is governed by the majestic Cerro Tronador. We breathe.

Things that seemed to make no sense, come before us to invite us to rappel: a technique for descending the mountain that allows us to know ourselves, to challenge our inner-self. When was the last time you did something for the first time? And from this experience, we come back different. We equip ourselves and descend. It seemed impossible but we already did it.

We are ready to return, but before that there is a pause for contemplation: lunch. A moment to relax, connect and learn stories about the native Tehuelches, their culture and how they cooked in ancient times. A mountain lunch is served, where we present in this selection up in the mountains a blend of traditional ingredients from Patagonia and its interaction with the rest of the continent.

In the middle of the Andes, we can hear the winds’ whispering to our ears to pay attention, if we do so closely, we may see a condor flying around us. Before leaving, a tea gives us one last warm relief.

We start our descent and on the way down we realize that we are only halfway there. We cross the Gandalf Bridge, and follow the Flintstones trail until we reach the Brazo Tristeza viewpoint and continue down to the beach.

Here, we will spot our kayaks, inviting us to tour the aquatic world of Lake Nahuel Huapi. From the buoyancy we take full delightment of the landscapes rowing from the Nahuel Huapi to Moreno Lake. From there, protected by the reeds and the bays, we reach our final point, from where we take our private transfer back to the hotel, unless you’re staying at the Hotel Llao Llao where we may finish the tour disembarking at its bay.

Recoleta Cemetery Ticket

Recoleta Cemetery Ticket Included

Over 6,400 statues, sarcophagi, coffins and crypts commemorate some of Argentina’s most celebrated sons and daughters, not least Eva “Evita” Perón, in this labyrinthine city of the dead.

Recoleta Cemetery, in the neighbourhood of the same name, was once the orchard of the adjoining Basílica Nuestra Señora del Pilar – the glistening white church that overlooks the square outside. The land, which belonged to the Recollect monks from which the neighbourhood took its name, became the city’s first public cemetery in 1822. Its layout was designed by French engineer Próspero Catelin, who also designed the city’s Metropolitan Cathedral in the Plaza de Mayo.

It is an eerily beautiful place, with shadowed walkways and towering marble mausoleums rich in Art Deco, Art Nouveau, baroque and neo-gothic architectural styles, Masonic symbols and powerful religious iconography. Over 90 of its tombs are listed as national historical monuments. The most visited tombs are those of Eva Perón and former Argentine presidents Sarmiento and Raúl Alfonsín.
